Digital Smile Design (DSD) – Krakow

Digital Smile Design (DSD) is a modern method of prosthetic treatment planning. It allows for the design of a new smile before irreversible, invasive restorative treatment begins. With this treatment approach, the patient co-creates their own transformation, planning their new smile together with the dentist using computer software.

This method facilitates communication between the patient and the dentist, as well as between the dentist and the dental technician. Thanks to this communication, the patient receives their dream smile, in accordance with the plan and the patient’s approval prior to treatment.

How does it work?

First visit:

• Discussing the patient’s expectations and understanding their individual vision of a beautiful smile (this allows the dentist to receive personalized information from the patient for planning purposes).
• Clinical examination and radiological diagnostics to assess the current dentition.
• Photography session in the studio.

2nd visit:

• presentation of the initial project prepared by the doctor and final work on the project together with the patient (individual changes to the project according to the patient’s suggestions)

• after accepting the digital design, the position of the teeth is recorded using digital methods (digital scanning) or analogue methods (prosthetic impressions)

3rd visit

• presentation of an intraoral visualization of the planned smile, which was temporarily created on the patient’s own teeth without damaging them – a silicone template and a temporary material in an individually selected color are used

• A second photo session is performed to assess the “before” and “after” situation.
• An aesthetic and functional analysis of the newly designed smile is performed not in a digital image, but in real life.
• If any corrections are necessary, the design is sent back to the technician and presented again at the next visit.

After full approval of the design, we begin restorative treatment. This involves preparing the teeth and creating the planned work, which is a copy of the design collaboratively created by the patient, dentist, and technician.
