Treatment of periodontal disease

At our dental clinic, we specialize in periodontology, or the treatment of periodontal disease. The most common of these is periodontitis, also known as periodontitis. This common condition can develop for a long time without any visible symptoms. It begins with gingivitis. If left untreated, it can spread to the tissues supporting the teeth and the surrounding bone. If left untreated, periodontitis can even lead to tooth loss, so it’s worth making an appointment at our dental clinic in Krakow. The doctor will perform a thorough diagnostic test to assess the presence of periodontitis and the extent of the changes.

How do we treat periodontitis?

A periodontist treats periodontitis. It begins with a diagnosis. If the dentist determines that periodontitis is only in its early stages, they typically perform a curettage, which involves thoroughly cleaning the tooth root and periodontal pocket to remove plaque and tartar. In cases of gum recession and exposed tooth necks, a gingivectomy or gingivoplasty may be necessary. Both procedures aim to restore the normal appearance of the gums. The dentist lengthens crowns and removes unnecessary, overgrown gingival fragments.

In cases of severe periodontitis, the intervention of an oral surgeon is necessary. They perform a flap surgery, which involves debridement of the bone, removal of inflammation, and reconstruction of lost tissue. In some situations, in addition to periodontal treatment, traditional dental treatment may be necessary, such as removal of decay, root canal therapy, or extraction of teeth that are not suitable for treatment. If your gums are sensitive, bleed, or you experience pain when eating or brushing your teeth, contact our clinic and we will halt the progression of the disease and save your teeth.

Periodontitis – prevention

After treatment, proper preventative care is crucial to maintain the achieved results and prevent recurrence. Patients receive detailed recommendations for daily oral hygiene, including proper brushing technique, flossing, and antibacterial mouthwashes. Regular follow-up visits and professional hygiene treatments, such as scaling and sandblasting, allow for the ongoing removal of plaque and bacteria responsible for inflammation.

At our clinic, we focus on a comprehensive approach to periodontal disease treatment. We analyze each case individually, selecting treatment methods based on the severity of the condition and the patient’s needs. We also collaborate with other specialists, allowing for full tooth reconstruction if teeth have been lost.

Early response to the first symptoms, such as bleeding gums, redness, or bad breath, significantly increases the chances of successful treatment without the need for surgery. Therefore, don’t delay your appointment – early treatment can help maintain a healthy smile for years to come.
